Sumpter Township is a quaint rural community of 9,549 residents in the southwest corner of Wayne, midway between the urban areas of Ann Arbor and Detroit. It encompasses an area of approximately 37.5 square miles.
The community consists of diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and the resident take pride in their surroundings of woodlands, wetlands, prairies and agriculture lands. Roadside stands with fresh farm produce, horseback riding trails at Crosswind Marsh Preserve, a Wayne County Park and abundant wildlife, are all amenities of the “country life” that residents enjoy.
Sumpter Township boundaries are defined by Rawsonville Road, Oakville Waltz Road, Clark Road and Bemis Road.

“Mardi-Gras Dinner Dance”
Annual event held at the P.N.A. Hall, just be the beginning of Lent (45476 Harris Road in Belleville, MI). New Orleans Mardi Gras atmosphere with colorful decorations, Cajun style dinner and dancing. Well attended community event.
“Children’s Easter Party”
Event held each Easter for the children of the community at the Sumpter Community Center or Graham Park. The kids enjoy a visit from the Easter Bunny along with game prizes, refreshments and an Easter Egg Hunt or Magic Show.
“Oakland Wolverine Boat Club Race”
Races are held on Sherwood Pond at Banotai Park, featuring miniature remote controlled hydroplane boats. It is usually a competition between Club members. Food and beverages available.
“Sumpter Country Fest”
This Annual event is held Memorial Weekend at the Sumpter Community Festival grounds. This 5 day event includes a Carnival, Beer Tent, Bingo, Silent Auction, Parade, Fireworks, Car Show, Tribute to the Legends (impersonators) and a Demolition Derby. Fun and games for the kids, pony rides, baby contest, petting zoo and live daily entertainment.
“Ford Model Boat Club Races”
Annual event held at the Banotai Park on Sherwood Pond, featuring various size miniature remote controlled powered hydroplane boats. Qualifying the 1st day and trophy racing the 2nd day. Open to the public with gate fee. Food and beverages available.
“Family Fun Day”
All day event held at Graham Park featuring a soft ball game between Sumpter and Bellville Police against the Firemen. Also there is horseshoe competitions, children’s games with prizes, tug of war, and much more. Food and beverages are provided.
“Don Rochon Memorial Car Show”
Annual high profile event held at Sumpter Festival Grounds, featuring a large gathering of classic antique cars, motorcycles, tractors and trucks. There are door prizes, raffles, special contests and a Demolition Derby. Trophies are presented for all categories. D.J. music is provided throughout the day. Food and beverages are available.
Annual Sunday afternoon event held at the Gun Range at the Willow Road Land Fill range. Competitions starts at noon and shoots last until competitions are completed. Prizes consist of bacon, ham and turkeys. Winners are selected by the best cluster of bird shot in the targets Grand prize for the last day of the shoot is a new shotgun. Food and beverages are available.
“Children’s Christmas Party”
Party is held at the Sumpter Community Center with a visit from Santa Claus, presents for the children, fun and games. Food provided by the Sumpter Seniors with Christmas treat bag provided by the Sumpter Parks and Recreation Commission.
